Chicago 40 Days closing ceremony

Joe Scheidler talks to pro-lifers at the closing ceremonies at Albany

Forty-five prayer warriors gathered for the final hour of prayer at Albany/Family Planning Associates clinic on Chicago’s northwest side.

The Pro-Life Action League held closing events for the “40 Days for Life” prayer vigils this weekend in Chicago and in Aurora, IL.

Rosary and Church Bells at Albany

Larry and Marge Theriault of the Illinois Knights of Columbus and Margie Hermano, representing Couples for Christ, assisted Joe and Ann Scheidler in leading the rosary and the Day 40 prayer from the 40 Days for Life website.

Participants were invited to share their own experiences and reflections of coming out to pray at the abortion clinic. Among the stories: a woman stopped by to report that ten years ago she had come to that clinic for an abortion. Sidewalk counselors were there and directed her to the Women’s Center. She is grateful for her ten year old daughter.

Hierarchy Weighs In: But Will Catholics Vote Pro-life?

Posted by Joe Scheidler (October 31, 2008 at 12:18 pm)

We are adding an extra day to this hotline to get us through the Nov. 4 elections and we will include our observations on Wednesday’s Action News. Meanwhile, pray!

Church Hierarchy Weighs In: You Cannot Vote For Abortion Supporters

We have never seen so much ecclesiastical involvement in an election as there is in this one. While not mentioning candidates by name, the Church Hierarchy has made it clear that candidates in either or any party who support abortion cannot be voted for by practicing Catholics, without those Catholics incurring guilt (see, for example, what Bishop Martino and Cardinal George have written). What Does It Really Mean To Be Pro-Life?

Posted by Corrina Gura (October 28, 2008 at 12:19 pm)

I just don’t understand how there are Catholics out there who still don’t get it.

Letter: Which Candidate Respects Life?

A friend sent me the following letter to the editor from the Quad Cities Times by Bernie Tadda:

Get Schools Out of the Bedroom!

Posted by Joe Scheidler (October 24, 2008 at 12:21 pm)

I have just returned from Baltimore, MD where I delivered the keynote address at Steve Peroutka’s seventh Annual Pro-Life Appreciation Night in Glen Burnie. Among those honored were the eighteen young people under the direction of Jack Ames who were violently arrested and held all night in jail for holding graphic signs during a Face the Truth Tour last summer.

Prayers Needed For Northern Ireland

Posted by Corrina Gura (October 21, 2008 at 12:22 pm)

The Scheidlers are back, safe and sound, from their trip to Ireland. You can read Eric’s full write up about the rally on our homepage.

Northern Ireland Doesn’t Want Abortion

Joe and Eric spoke at a rally organized by Bernie Smyth of Precious Life, protesting the efforts to bring abortion into Northern Ireland. Because Northern Ireland has its own criminal justice laws, abortion is still illegal there, despite 1967 law which legalized abortion in the rest of the UK. But the pro-aborts don’t want to keep it that way.

Parliament will be voting on Wednesday to decide whether Northern Ireland will cease to be pro-life. Please, please pray for wisdom of the legislators. The people of Northern Ireland do not want abortion.

On Saturday October 18, members of the Pro-Life Action League joined thousands of pro-lifers in Belfast, Northern Ireland for a Rally for Life, calling on the Parliament in Westminster not to impose abortion on the province.

The Rally at the beautiful Stormont building, seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly, was organized by Bernie Smyth of Precious Life, Northern Ireland’s most active and effective pro-life group. Buses came from all across Northern Ireland, plus several from the Republic of Ireland.

Speakers Call for Northern Ireland To Remain Abortion Free

“Pastor to the Unborn” Ed Martin, a pro-life activist from Jacksonville, Florida with close ties to the pro-life movement in Ireland, offered the opening prayer. Representatives from all the major parties of Northern Ireland spoke next, with the exception of Sinn Fein, which indicated its support in a letter to Precious Life.

60% of People Are Pro-Life—They Just Don't Realize It

Posted by Corrina Gura (October 17, 2008 at 12:25 pm)

I went to get my hair cut a few weeks back and the stylist asked me where I work. I have to admit that I still tense up when I tell perfect strangers where I work, since I don’t know how they will react.

I told her I work at the Pro-Life Action League, a group devoted to telling people the truth about what happens during abortion and to helping women choose a life affirming alternative to abortion-like adoption or parenting. She looked at me and said, “Wait, that sounds ‘pro-choice’ to me-you’re giving these women choices.”

40 Days Vigil Gets Great Press Locally

Posted by Corrina Gura (October 14, 2008 at 12:26 pm)

Joe, Ann, Eric, and April, Eric’s wife, are in Ireland all week, celebrating pro-life victories in that country with the group Precious Life. Please pray for their safe travel and that they might touch many hearts on their visit. Please also pray for the repose of the soul of Jim LoCoco, brother of long time activist Nick LoCoco and for longtime sidewalk counselor Maddy Giammarese, who is at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Hammond Indiana with a serious infection.

The League Mourns Planned Parenthood Aurora's 1st Anniversary

October 2, 2008, was the first anniversary of the day that Planned Parenthood Aurora first opened its doors. After months of protest, petitioning government, and constant prayer, that was a dark day for Fox Valley’s pro-life community.

And while the anniversary was a day of mourning for the babies who have lost their lives at the Abortion Fortress and their hurting mothers, the mood of the fifty pro-lifers who gave their lunch hour to pray at the vigil site was also full of hope.

Noon, the “sixth hour” by the old Hebrew reckoning, was the hour at which Christ was crucified. Linking the sacrifice of the Son of God on the cross with the sacrifice of His little ones at the abortuary, the faithful joined in the prayer of the Sixth Hour of the Byzantine Liturgy of the Hours, comprising several psalms and prayers invoking the crucifixion.
