This is going to be a short Action News because I’m taking my three daughters and my wife to dinner and to see Camelot at the Oakbrook Terrace as an Advent treat and I’ve been writing thank you letters all day. People are very generous at this time of year, thank Heavens. Our bank account was down to $500 at one point recently and it’s hard to operate a national organization on $500.
Monday is the feast of the Immaculate Conception, the dogma proclaiming that Mary, in anticipation of her role in bringing mankind its Redeemer, came into being without original sin. As a result of this grace, she never commit any actual sin, as befits the Mother of Christ who came to take away the sins of the world.
Sunday, December 7, is Pearl Harbor day. The original Pearl Harbor day, 1941, was also a Sunday. My brother Bob and my cousin Leo and I were out at the farm playing war on that Sunday afternoon, and as we walked back into town we heard newsboys shouting “Extra, Extra, Read All About It, Japanese Bomb Pearl Harbor.”
This was a maybe twice in a lifetime event, to have a newspaper put out on Sunday in Hartford City, population 7,000, and to have newsboys shouting and selling papers on the street. Besides, what was Pearl Harbor? And why would the Japanese bomb a place that belonged to us?
I would hate to be an abortionist, not just because I’d be a murderer, but because they are losing the battle. On a purely human level it would be demeaning, embarrassing, frustrating and scary to be in a business doomed to failure and ultimately leads to hell.
The abortionists are losing. They can’t keep their mills going, get providers, rent space. Contractors refuse to build their death camps, nobody likes them, they are being sued, and public opinion is against them.
Jim Finnegan and the famous God Squad and Nativity Crew did it again — they placed a life-size manger scene in the Chicago Daley Plaza that will remain there until after Christmas. While all over America, Christ is being brutally ripped out of former sites and denied as a part of Christmas, when in fact Christmas is only about Christ, it is refreshing and encouraging to see the Nativity set prominently displayed in the middle of downtown Chicago.
We have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, and we thank God for the opportunities we’ve had to save babies lives and women’s consciences from abortion.
While the courts of the land are a scandal, the legislatures a mess and even many churches weak and some giving scandal, good people are winning the fight for life and justice. For that we are grateful.
Everyone we have talked to about the Vigil Saturday and Sunday at Cicero and Elston was impressed. The Mass Saturday morning was standing room only. Despite a drizzle and even some downright rain, the beautiful statue of Our Lady of the New Millennium was never unattended, and some people kept the entire vigil.

For nearly two whole days, a 33-foot tall statue of Our Lady of the New Millenium looked down on the parking lot of Albany Medical Surgical Center on Chicago’s northwest side, a notorious abortion mill. For 24 hours, a vigil was held at the foot of the statue, which is owned by Mrs. Francine Demma and displayed throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. Hundreds of pro-lifers came to spend a few hours praying for an end to abortion, and especially for the women bound for abortions at Albany.
This is our final announcement on the 24 Hour Vigil with the Our Lady of the New Millennium Statute at the Albany abortion mill, Cicero at Elston, starting with Mass Saturday at 8 a.m. and ending after Mass Sunday at 8 a.m. Try to come by at least for a visit.
It is a coup to get the parking lot across from the mill, use of the facilities at the Knanaya Center and permission to rope off the street. Someone up there is working with us. Come and be part of it.
Morning tour site along Adams at Wacker [Photo by EJS]
Twenty-five Pro-Life Action League volunteers held graphic abortion signs and passed out literature at two sites in downtown Chicago Wednesday, November 19. Their presence on this final Face the Truth Day of 2003 saved two unborn babies from abortion.
The first tour site was at Adams and Wacker, to confront the morning commuters walking from Union Station from 8:00 to 9:30. As usual with the Union Station tour sites, the public was difficult to reach. Nevertheless we managed to distribute hundreds of Face the Truth flyers.
