January 22 marked the 36th anniversary of the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and, just like they have every year since, pro-lifers flooded our nation's capital for the March for Life. The 2009 March provided the ideal opportunity to introduce the League's new handbook, Sharing the Pro-Life Message.

The evening before the March, the League's John Jansen, Corrina Gura, Eric Scheidler and Matt Yonke attended a debut hosted by Jill Stanek of the gut-wrenching pro-life film, 22 weeks, based on a true story of a mother whose baby was born alive during an abortion procedure. Scheidler gave copies of Sharing the Pro-Life Message to star Natalie Wenninger and the real-life mother, Angele.

New League Handbook Well Recieved

The next day, League staff—including Ann and Joe Scheidler, joined by Eric's daughter Clare—marched together with the Youth Life Alliance, a coalition uniting youth-oriented pro-life organizations from all over the world. Hundreds of Youth Life Alliance members marched behind a line of banners from each member organization spanning the width of the street.

Throughout the day, the League group distributed hundreds of copies of Sharing the Pro-Life Message. Pro-lifers from across the country were thrilled to be receive the free handbook, many declaring they had been wanting something like it for years.

Hundreds Protest at D.C. Abortuaries

The day after the March, Friday, January 23, the League's Matt Yonke and Corrina Gura joined Stand True's Bryan Kemper and a crowd of hundreds for a day of activism all over the city. Prayer at two abortion clinics was followed by a ceremony at the White House, including a talk by Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The group joined their voices and called for President Obama to stand up for his African-American brothers and sisters, among whom the leading cause of death is abortion. The group placed 1,400 carnations in front of the White House, one for each of the African-American babies killed every day by abortion.

The tremendously successful day of activism concluded with a human development display outside Union Station provided by the Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust. "I haven't seen numbers like this at a clinic in D.C. in years," Kemper remarked. "God is really working here today."
